What Penn State Health publishes about proxy access

Each point below comes from the Penn State Health page linked under it, read on November 7, 2026. Where the wording matters, the page is quoted as published.

  1. You must be at least 18 to have proxy access to another persons record.

  2. Parents or legal guardians request proxy access to a minor (through age 17) inside MyChart via Sharing Hub, then Request access to a minor record, and submit the online request form.

  3. At age 14 proxy access is automatically limited; patients 14 to 17 may grant expanded access to a parent or legal guardian; at 18 proxy access automatically ends.

When a child turns 14 years old, proxy access is automatically limited to protect adolescent privacy. Patients, ages 14-17, may grant expanded access to a parent or legal guardian.

  4. Requests can also be made in person at an appointment if both the patient and requestor are present.

Requests can also be made in person at an appointment if both the patient and requestor are present.

What Sahara helps with

Sahara does not create or approve proxy access, and it cannot get around a decision Penn State Health makes. That stays with Penn State Health.

Once you can sign in to MyChart, Sahara is a free, read-only view of the record you are authorized to see, with general education from MedlinePlus for supported medications, labs and conditions, in English and Spanish. You connect through the MyChart authorization page and can disconnect at any time. Sahara does not give medical advice or interpret results.

Before you act
